Freia Monolit chocolate bar

Freia Monolit is a classic Norwegian chocolate bar, recognized for its distinctive layers of marzipan and raspberry-flavored jelly coated in dark chocolate. The Freia brand is deeply rooted in Norwegian history, having been founded in Oslo in 1889 by Johan Throne Holst. For over a century, the brand has remained a cultural icon in Norway, with many of its products still produced at the historic factory in Rodeløkka, Oslo.

Today, while Freia maintains its proud Norwegian identity and local manufacturing operations, it is part of a global snack empire. The brand was acquired by Kraft Foods in 1993, which later spun off its snack division to become Mondelez International. As of 2026, Mondelez International remains the ultimate owner company, overseeing the distribution and continued production of Freia's beloved chocolate range for the Nordic market.
