Demeter Biodynamic foods and products

Demeter is the largest certification organization for biodynamic agriculture and is one of the three predominant organic certifiers worldwide. Its name refers to Demeter, the Greek goddess of grain and fertility. Unlike a single commercial brand, Demeter functions as a global certification seal used by thousands of independent farmers and manufacturers who adhere to the strict holistic farming standards established by Rudolf Steiner in 1924.

The manufacturing and production of Demeter-certified goods occur in over 60 countries across the globe, wherever biodynamic farming is practiced. This decentralized approach ensures that the products are harvested and processed locally or regionally, maintaining the integrity of the ecosystem from which they originate.

Ownership of the Demeter brand is held by the Demeter-Bund in Germany, which founded the trademark in 1928. Today, the trademark is managed internationally by the Biodynamic Federation Demeter International, headquartered in Germany. This non-profit umbrella organization oversees national certification bodies to ensure that the rigorous biodynamic standards are consistently applied across all brand products globally.
