The Bialetti Moka Express is an iconic stovetop coffee maker that revolutionized home brewing. Invented in 1933 by Alfonso Bialetti in Crusinallo, Italy, its unique octagonal shape was inspired by the silhouette of his wife and named after the city of Mokha in Yemen. For nearly a century, it has remained a staple of Italian culture and global industrial design, famously featuring the 'Little Man with a Mustache' mascot created in the 1950s.
Historically manufactured exclusively in Italy to maintain its 'Made in Italy' status, production has expanded to include facilities in Romania and Turkey to meet global demand, though premium and classic models often still carry the Italian manufacturing hallmark.
In 2025, the brand underwent a significant ownership transition when NUO Capital, a Luxembourg-based investment firm backed by the Cheng family of Hong Kong, acquired a controlling stake in Bialetti Industrie S.p.A. Despite this change in ultimate ownership, the company's operational headquarters remain in Coccaglio, Italy, preserving the brand's deep-rooted Italian heritage.
