Kioxia Memory and Storage

Kioxia is a global leader in memory solutions, formerly known as Toshiba Memory. The brand represents a continuation of the company that originally invented NAND flash memory in the 1980s. Following a major spin-off from Toshiba Corporation in 2018, the business was rebranded as Kioxia—a name derived from the Japanese word 'kioku' (memory) and the Greek word 'axia' (value).

Today, Kioxia operates major manufacturing plants in Japan, specifically the Yokkaichi and Kitakami plants, which are among the largest and most advanced semiconductor production facilities in the world. The company focuses on the development of high-density 3D flash memory, solid-state drives (SSDs), and memory cards for consumer and enterprise use.

Ownership of Kioxia involves a consortium led by Bain Capital, though it remains a Japanese-headquartered entity. As of the current trajectory into 2026, the company continues to maintain a strategic partnership with Western Digital for research and joint manufacturing ventures while operating as an independent powerhouse in the semiconductor industry.
