The brand traces its origins to 1886 when it was first sold at the Fortnum & Mason department store in London. The H.J. Heinz Company, founded in the United States, began producing these beans in the UK in 1905, establishing factories in Peckham and later in Harlesden. In 1946, production expanded to a former munitions factory in Standish, near Wigan, and in 1958, a new factory opened in Kitt Green, also near Wigan. Over the years, Heinz has introduced various packaging innovations, including the five-can multipack in 2013, offering consumers greater choice and flexibility. In 2021, Heinz rolled out eco-friendly multipack designs across all canned products in the UK, removing 550 tonnes of shrink-wrap packaging.
