Historically, the brand was a central part of the Gervais Danone merger in 1967. However, the rights to the Gervais brand for cottage cheese and curd products in Germany were eventually acquired by the Hochland group, a major family-owned German cheese processor. Today, the product is primarily manufactured in Germany, maintaining its status as a high-protein dairy staple. The ultimate owner, Hochland SE, is headquartered in Heimenkirch, Germany.
