Ca'Barun Langhe DOC Freisa is a red wine produced by Ca'Barun Winery, located in Santo Stefano Belbo, Piedmont, Italy. The winery, acquired in 2007, is a small independent producer focusing on quality wines, with an annual production of approximately 8,000 bottles. Their portfolio includes six different wines and a Vermouth, all crafted with attention to detail and quality to reflect the uniqueness of the grapes and terroir. Vineyard work is performed by hand, emphasizing sustainable practices. The Langhe DOC Freisa is made from 100% Freisa grapes, harvested manually into small boxes towards the end of September or beginning of October. The wine undergoes approximately 12 days of alcoholic fermentation and 15-20 days of maceration in steel tanks, with over-pumping three times a day. After malolactic fermentation, it is aged in French 500-liter oak barrels (tonneau), which are 1-3 years old, for approximately 18 months before bottling. Prior to release, the wine is stored in the cellar for at least six months. The annual production of this wine is approximately 2,000 bottles. The wine presents a compact ruby red color, with a bouquet of red fruits, prunes, and spicy roasted wood. On the palate, it offers an intensity of red berries—raspberries and blackberries—with hints of licorice and black pepper, as well as undertones of roasted oak and vanilla. It is recommended to be served at 16-18°C and pairs well with red meat, game, and matured cheeses. The wine has a storage potential of at least 10-15 years. Ca'Barun Winery's commitment to quality and sustainable practices is evident in their meticulous production process, aiming to produce wines that embody the unique characteristics of the Piedmont region.
